Our Veterinarian

Dr. Carolyn Etter

Dr. Carolyn Etter hails from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, where her childhood was filled with dreams of acquiring a menagerie of pets. Although her ambitions to create a personal zoo were only partly fulfilled, she cherished the cats, dogs, and pocket pets that she was able to love and care for.

Her passion for animals guided her career path from a young age. Initially aspiring to be a veterinarian, she also entertained thoughts of becoming a zookeeper, a veterinary behaviorist, or a park ranger depending on the day. Pursuing her dreams, she obtained a biology degree with a focus on zoology before attending the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine (Go Illini!), where she graduated with high honors. Serendipitously, she met her future husband, Dr. Stephen Etter, during her studies.

Following veterinary school, the Etters embarked on a journey that took them from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to North Carolina. They resided in Greenville and Charlotte before finding their ideal haven on a small farm in Green Creek. There, they reside with their two daughters, three dogs, and two cats, eagerly anticipating the arrival of more furry companions in the future.

Why In-Home Euthanasia?

Dr. Etter, a primary care veterinarian with experience at various animal hospitals, has performed humane euthanasia for numerous animals. Witnessing the heartbreak of losing beloved pets was challenging, yet she found fulfillment in offering the kindness of a gentle, peaceful passing to animals in need. She also provided support to their caretakers and families during these difficult moments. After taking time off to raise her young children, Dr. Carrie was eager to return to veterinary care, but she aimed to create a more tranquil and personal experience for her patients compared to a hospital setting.

Furthermore, Dr. Etter was inspired by the peaceful memories of her own pets' in-home euthanasia experiences, which contrasted sharply with the stress and fear often associated with hospital visits. Recognizing the importance of extending this gentle service to more animals, she established Kindred Vet House Calls. Her mission is to offer animals and their families compassionate, peaceful, and dignified care, mirroring the care she provides to her own pets.
